Everyone should know how important it is to take care of yourself. One thing I am sure most people don’t know is that we were made with the power within ourselves to heal. We don’t realize just how powerful our mind is to heal our body.
I am not just talking about our conscious mind either. In fact, it is only a small part the conscious mind plays, but the subconscious and unconscious mind is what I will be referring mostly to.
The Three Parts of our Mind
Everyone is aware of their conscious mind but hardly anybody knows that it actually only comprises about 10 to 15 per cent of our brain capacity. Yes that is right, only 10-15 %. If we were to think about an iceberg in the ocean then the top part of it that we see is around 10 or 15 % of the whole iceberg. The rest is under water. That top part would be our conscious mind.
The next layer of the iceberg comprises around 50 to 60 per cent and would be the subconscious part of our mind. It is much larger than the conscious mind and has a different role to play.
On the bottom comprising the other 30 to 40 per cent of our mind is the unconscious. While the subconscious mind is accessible and works together with the conscious mind, the unconscious mind is inaccessible to conscious thought.
Harness the Power of Your Mind
The real power of our mind is not the 10 to 15 per cent of our conscious mind. The conscious mind deals with the now, the day to day aspect of our lives. In order to effect real change in our life we must be contact with our subconscious and unconscious mind.
One way to look at the subconscious mind is to think of it as the same as RAM in a computer. It is where we pull up things in our recent memory quickly when called upon to do so. It is a storehouse of experiences where our behaviors, beliefs and habits are formed. The subconscious mind can be in contact with both the conscious and unconscious parts of our mind.
The unconscious mind is the storehouse of all of our life memories and experiences that we have either forgotten or are no longer important to us. This is more like the Hard Drive part of a computer.
There are ways beyond just positive thinking to come into contact with our subconscious and unconscious mind in order to effect real change to heal our body. Positive thinking is important though because our subconscious mind does obey what it is told from our conscious mind. By directing our focus enough over time through our subconscious mind we will reprogram the unconscious beliefs and be able to change on a deep level. Even to the point of healing certain things in our body.
Holistic Awareness and Healing
We should understand we do have the power to influence and support our own healing process. We must devote ourselves to self-care and clear our emotions that influence or block our ability to heal.
Most everyone is aware that pharmaceuticals have side effects and mask the issue. Yes they treat the symptoms until the body is fully able to heal itself. This is not to say that there are not appropriate times when we need the care of a Healthcare Professional. We should just honor our bodies by realizing that which is beyond our control and what is within our means.
Holistic practitioners will be focused on the cause of the condition not just alleviating the symptoms. They believe that a patient is a person, not a disease. Holistic medicine seeks to find a balance in life by considering the mind, body, spirit, and emotions as a whole. When all of these parts are not working properly, it will affect all the other parts.
A Holistic Doctor may use conventional medication as well as alternative techniques such as chiropractic, massage therapy, acupuncture, homeopathy and others. Holistic Doctors will look at every potential factor that might be affecting a person’s health in order to treat them properly. They will help a patient take responsibility for their own well-being.
Emotional Freedom Techniques
Emotional health is essential to our physical health and healing. You cannot achieve your body’s full power to heal and its preventative powers if there are emotional barriers standing in the way. Emotional Freedom Techniques or EFT combines Eastern acupressure with Western psychotherapy. It is based on energy meridians in our body that you tap on while you think about or talk about any specific problem.
Emotional Freedom Techniques or EFT has not been around very long, only since about the 1990s when Gary Craig published the EFT Handbook. While modern medicine will be quick to discredit anything new where there has not been a ton of research, I would ask you to just talk to and research for yourself, people that are using it and benefiting from it every single day of their lives.
How can EFT help us?
- Stress, tension, anxiety, depression and a whole host of other emotions can get in the way and block our ability to focus clearly and overcome the challenges we face. Using EFT will allow you to clear your mind.
- When your mind becomes clear you are able to reduce or eliminate anxiety and tension that you feel in your body thereby allowing yourself to relax to the point of reducing any pain you may be feeling.
- Releasing all of these emotions can also help to reduce a racing mind so that you are able to relax and have good sleep quality. Insomnia is a condition that affects millions of people but EFT will help even people that don’t need as much sleep to have a deeper more restful and quality of rejuvenation.
- Feeling overwhelmed, fear, or angry? These can be helped by using EFT giving you a positive attitude and being better equipped to handle your daily challenges.
- We feel stress both in our body and in our mind. It is the same with tension which is the result of being over stressed. People report fabulous results from tapping on the meridian points to relieve this stress and tension motivating us to be able to have a productive day.
- People have also used tapping (EFT) to get on track for weight loss and having confidence in how that there body looks.
There is an abundance of information and testimonies how Emotional Freedom Techniques can be used for healing. I plan to go further in depth in future posts.
Through convincing scientific evidence modern medicine is beginning to understand the importance of the body/mind connection. Some are starting to incorporate meditation into treatment plans for illness, injury, and pain management.
When you are sick have you ever heard people say, “It’s all in your head?” Some people literally make themselves sick because they are constantly thinking something is wrong with them. A hypochondriac is defined as abnormally anxious (anxiety) about their health. It is considered a mental illness with physical symptoms.
The evidence is strong that we need to unleash the power within ourselves to heal our physical body!
